Cherokee County offers the quintessential environment for business, career and life to take off. Cherokee offers a unique opportunity for companies starting up, relocating or expanding to experience the right balance of commerce and lifestyle.

It’s a place where the energy of cutting-edge business leaders and new start-ups combine with the comfortable pace of green space and outdoors, giving you ample room to breathe.  It’s a place where you can live like a local and take your business global.

It doesn’t take long to discover what makes this place so exceptional, and why so many are creating their own tailor-made experience. That’s Cherokee by Choice.

Cherokee By Choice is the new five-year, public-private partnership and economic growth initiative of the Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED).

This research-based initiative will fund 45 specific new enhanced strategies and tactics to solve three of Cherokee County’s  pressing challenges to its long-term economic growth and prosperity, including:

  • A nearly 80 percent out-commute of skilled workers that could be employed in Cherokee
  • Local employers that struggle with staying fully-staffed and finding the right workers with the right skills, and
  • A lack of available land and commercial space for expanding or relocating companies.

The plan to address these problems focuses on three specific goals:

  • Grow and diversify our business and tax base
  • Grow the local workforce, and
  • Grow sites and building capacity

With new funding, staff and resources, the vision and plan will shift the county to the next level of economic competitiveness and prosperity.

In late 2017, the COED Board of Directors began building the foundation for a campaign to secure $2 million in private sector investment to support the implementation of its five-year Cherokee By Choice Economic Development Initiative.

The campaign has experienced incredible success thanks to the leadership of our Campaign Chairs Mark Goddard (Cobb EMC) Tim Fernandez (YANMAR America), COED Chairman Marshall Day, COED Vice Chairman Steve Holcomb, and numerous other campaign volunteers.
