Drink Coffee and #Prevail
“At SARCRAFT, we seek to become the outdoor education industry standard in the areas of wilderness survival, fieldcraft, bushcraft, and search & rescue consulting, and by doing so, bestow the skills necessary to preserve life onto those who venture into the wild,” said SARCRAFT’s Co-Founder and Business Development Manager Alexander Bryant.
Bryant represented SARCRAFT as he presented a few challenges their company is facing to the 1MC Cherokee community; a free bi-weekly coffee gathering where an entrepreneur presents their company to a local community for support. Challenges include having too many ideas and not enough time to put them into practice and sourcing a crew to launch their first executive leadership, corporate team building workshop.
Stationed on a 70-acre plot of land in Waleska, SARCRAFT hosts various levels of afternoon, overnight, and weekend courses ranging from introductory fire craft and shelter programs to advanced land navigation and exam preparation for NASAR SARTECH I & II certification.
The Reinhardt alum and Waleska native came up with the idea of a wilderness skill program over a cup of coffee with fellow Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Wilderness Search & Rescue Team volunteer Jonathan Morris. The two were outdoors on a training mission and thought a cup of coffee over a campfire would be nice. The only catch was that it was cold and rainy, not exactly prime fire starting conditions, but because of Morris’ experience, starting a fire in less than stellar conditions was no issue, something Bryant realized they could teach others about.
During the Q&A, an audience member asked about SARCRAFT’s vision and end goal. Bryant replied, “We hope to create a brand that is recognizable and content that is clear enough so that it can easily be reproduced nationwide, that is something other wilderness programs are not currently doing.”
Another question asked about the items Bryant carries with him in his survival kit. Bryant immediately counted off several such as two flashlights, “two is one and one is none,” a field knife and another for backup, and 100 yards of paracord cut into various lengths.”
The 1MC Cherokee gathering ended with several participants gathered around Alex hoping to discuss SARCRAFT’s programs further and the possibility of signing up for a weekend course.
We are now 300 cups into our 1 Million cups of coffee, and remember, when it comes to cups of coffee: two is one, and one is none. Or maybe that just applies to flashlights.
