Hundreds of Jobs Available as COED Hosts First Annual Career Expo
CANTON, March 10, 2015 – A recent Regional Snapshot released by the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) projects Cherokee County will lead the Metro region in job growth from now until 2040. Over the past three years, the Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) has attracted 12 corporations to locate within the county, many of which have established regional or North American headquarters. Cherokee has also seen 43 industry expansions since 2012. The upshot to this success is the creation of thousands of new jobs.
On Wednesday, March 25, COED is hosting its first annual Cherokee Career Expo, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Labor. The event will take place from 2p.m. until 6p.m. at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center, located at The Bluffs, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton, Ga. 30114. Scores of Cherokee’s largest employers, including corporations, manufacturing and global businesses will be on-hand looking to hire more than 600 qualified workers. Recruiters will be representing a majority of Cherokee’s target sectors, which include customer service, retail, finance, healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing and small business. The job openings range from engineering, sales, marketing, administration, finance/accounting, executive leadership and skilled labor such as machine and forklift operators, machinists, cable cord operators, and research and development specialists, among many others.
“Cherokee residents need to support this event by attending,” began Marshall Day, COED Chairman. “By creating jobs here, we’ve empowered residents to eliminate their daily commute as well as a lot of unnecessary stress.”
“Of all the projects we work on at COED, job creation is probably the most personal for me,” said Misti Martin, COED President. “I understand the value of providing someone with an opportunity to work close enough from home you’re there at night to have dinner with your family, instead of being stuck in traffic. We’re all striving for that balance between life and work.”
Job seekers wanting to retool their resumes before or during the event can meet with career specialists from Chattahoochee Technical and the GDOL starting at noon the day of the event at a designated area at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center.
Participation in the Cherokee Career Expo is being offered free-of-charge by COED to support Cherokee business and industry, and to provide Cherokee’s highly-skilled workforce with advantageous career opportunities at home.
