Interstate 75 Signage in SW Cherokee to Change

WOODSTOCK, March 4, 2015 – Within a matter of weeks, the Georgia Department of Transportation will update the signage along Interstate 75 to include the city of Woodstock on posts that currently only reference Acworth. The southwest corner of Cherokee County has experienced tremendous growth over the past year, due to the successful development of the Cherokee 75 Corporate Park, Majestic Realty’s Cherokee Commerce Center and Cabela’s new 100,000 square-foot sporting goods complex. The growth is certain to continue.

Inalfa Roof Systems, the anchor tenant in the Cherokee 75 Corporate Park recently announced plans to construct a second building to expand its Cherokee Assembly Facility. This will be the second expansion in less than a year for the global manufacturer of high-end automotive roofing systems. In 2014, Inalfa had barely moved into its new 165,000 square-foot facility, when it announced plans to add another 45,000 square feet. Now, it will add a second building.

MSK Covertech-Group is also in the process of building its new North American headquarters in the park. In addition, the county’s first speculative building in eight years is under construction at Cherokee 75 Corporate Park. The growth is expected to generate hundreds of new jobs by 2019.

We’d like to thank GDOT, Cherokee County and the Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) for making this happen,” said Jeff Moon, Woodstock City Manager. “Having a gateway and identity established on I-75 for the city of Woodstock is very helpful for our long-term economic development efforts by both increased exposure and awareness.  As we continue to promote the regional outlet mall and our expanding trail system in Woodstock, this was an essential component of our branding efforts.”

In addition, a new traffic signal has been installed at the park’s entrance off state Route 92. It was being tested last week and is expected to now be fully operational.

“The vision for this area began with Majestic’s Cherokee Commerce Center and has continued with the development of Cherokee 75 Corporate Park,” said COED Chairman, Marshall Day, adding the first parcel of land for Cherokee 75 Corporate was purchased in 2009 and the vision for Cherokee’s SW corner has been years in the making.

“The widening and realignment of Highway 92 opened this corridor up for redevelopment, and the Cherokee County Water & Sewerage Authority was visionary and made improvements that were imperative for the future,” said Misti Martin, COED President and CEO. “The 2010 Opportunity Zone Designation for added job tax credits from the state helped to spur the needed redevelopment with great economic impact. It’s a home run for the area. Southwest Cherokee will now have generous amenities for residents and it will also serve as a corporate hub.”
