Northside to spend $51 million on two expansions

October 28, 2014

Northside Hospital has notified the state of its desire to spend $48 million on upgrades to Northside Hospital-Forsyth and $3.3 million on Northside Hospital-Cherokee.

On Oct. 1, the hospital filed a letter of intent to Georgia’s Department of Community Health for the addition of shared operating rooms at Northside Hospital-Forsyth in Cumming, Ga. The project is expected to cost $10.3 million.

Then on Oct. 17, Northside filed two more letters of intent — one for a 16-bed expansion at Forsyth that would cost $38 million and one for a nine-bed expansion at its Cherokee location in Canton, Ga., expected to cost $3.3 million.

If the requests are approved by DCH, it will bring Forsyth’s bed total to 229 and Cherokee’s total to 97.

Northside’s next steps are to file Certificates of Need (CON) for its three projects. The CON for its operating room expansion must be submitted by Oct. 31, and the other two CONs are due by Nov. 17.
