Universal Alloy named Boeing’s Supplier of the Year
A Canton-based corporation that builds airplane components earned a Supplier of the Year award from the Boeing aircraft manufacturing company, based on quality, on-time delivery, support, cost and the corporation’s ability to work with changing customer needs.
Universal Alloy Corporation manufactures several components used to build airplanes, from the wings to the cabin floors, and officials said they were proud to earn the honor of being one of 15 Suppliers of the Year for Boeing.
On a tour of the multi-story facility Friday led by managers Chad Walker and Bob Stevenson, giant industrial machines hummed and clanged as workers produced the large aluminum components that will make up parts of airplanes.
“Boeing is by far our biggest customer,” Walker said, explaining the corporation had invested $20 million in new machines specifically to produce parts for Boeing. “We’re very proud and our employees are very proud of this company.”
The Canton location houses about 300 workers in an about 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, the managers said.
Steve Holcomb, vice chairman of the Cherokee Office of Economic Development, said the county is glad to have such a successful corporation headquartered in the county and congratulated UAC on its award.
“UAC has been one of Cherokee County’s brightest stars in industry since opening their national headquarters here,” Holcomb said. “They have continued to grow and succeed in both investment and job creation. We are proud and excited for them as corporate contributors.”
