Coronavirus: Stories of How Entrepreneurs in Cherokee County, GA are Adapting, Part 2

March 18, 2020

Story 2: Spencer Nix, CEO/Co-Founder, Reformation Brewery, Woodstock, Georgia

— Reformation is a values-based company guided by the following principles: ACCEPTANCE, STORY, AUTHENTICITY, MODERATION, HUMILITY, AND HUMOR established on October 31, 2013. Reformation serves hometown craft beer at three locations in Woodstock, Canton, and Smyrna offering to-go and curbside pickup at all locations.

1. How has the COVID-19 situation impacted your business recently?

It’s negatively impacting our main source of revenue, draft sales at both our locations and in market venues. We are rolling out new outdoor and drive-thru experiences and we’ve already created a new way to purchase and pickup using an online store. We are in for the fight of our lives and I and the rest of the core team will be working as we’ve never worked for something far greater than a paycheck.

2. How have you and your business adapted to the situation?

A multi-faceted approach with a partnership of thought leaders. We are still doing business triage; there are no experts for this. Keep the values that got us here centered in getting us out of here.

3. How have you prepared and led your team/employees?

I feel like my entire education, life experience, and everything I’ve ever led have brought me here and I don’t believe it’s by mistake.

4. What new things/perspectives (or old ones reinforced) have you learned about yourself, your business, and/or your community?

I am a lot more emotionally connected to my crew and my community that I am to my business. My business is simply the tool to do the things I ultimately love.

5. How have you stayed focused and positive?

Honesty. People respect and rally around those they trust.

6. What are some encouraging thoughts or stories you have heard that have kept you grounded?

The Italians singing from their balconies made me cry. A few texts and comments from my crew have devastated me with their graciousness and love.
